All Roads Lead to Home

Well, we've made it. After 36 hours of relentless travel, secondary inspection at customs, and a missed flight, we arrived on the east coast of Canada, once again. Our feet settling on the native soil and our bodies shivering from tiredness and the spring cold that is completely normal to the Maritimes.
Word of advice...
...never travel like this!
So, I know you're thinking: "How's the house? You crazy people bought it through online photos and a couple of virtual walk-throughs with our realtor." The house is pretty well exactly as advertised. There's the odd thing that isn't what we expected and some things that are better than we thought. That balances out to being pretty well where we thought it would be.
Imagine this space with no furniture...
Do we have a lot of work ahead of us? Yup. We're set up to get to work on the rental suite and have most of our ducks in a row for our own place. It was strange to have no where to sit to either eat or rest after our long slog. The next day was Good Friday, so most everything was closed. We stood around and paced out the spaces, waiting for stores to open, so we could get ourselves some essentials.

Saturday was a banner day, we scored chairs and stools, got the paintings to a framer and filled up the larder. We've never spent so much on groceries in one go, but when you have nothing, that's to be expected.

I've said it before, but it bares repeating: Canadians are nice, at least generally speaking. As soon as we set foot on the airplane that was to take us through Montreal, the Canadianisms started. There were tons of "please", "thank you", "no, after you" and the perennial favourite "sorry".  The airport staff in Montreal went above and beyond to help us with our heaps of luggage, getting our missed flight sorted and making sure all those bags would get to where they were supposed to. We really are a polite people.

So, at this point, we're running around like fools, trying to get everything bought and transported before we return the rental car. The house won't feel like ours until we get the artwork back up, but that takes time and we've got at least another week.

That's it from the wilds of downtown Moncton! Hasta la vista. (No, I'm not quoting from the Terminator!)

A Whole New World

We really weren't supposed to travel this year. We were supposed to behave, save up some money and go for a whiz bang big-birthday-big-anniversary trip next year. Anyone who knows us, knows that nothing is certain when it comes to where we'll be a year from now.
The new abode
So, it shouldn't surprise our friends and family that we've made a big change, once again, and come home earlier than we thought we would. Yup, we're heading back to the east coast and putting down some fledgling roots to see if they take. If the fertile lands of PEI couldn't do it, nor the rich cultural offering of Vancouver manage it, who knows what it will take? (The current move is officially known as "Ron's Loophole" - we're not travelling...we're moving!)
Cheers to a new adventure
Be that as it may, if you don't try then there's no chance of success. We're no putting our vagabond ways behind us. No, no. They're just on hold in the interim, until we figure this whole new phase of our life out.
Wish I still had this book
We'll let you know how it goes, as these things never tend to run smoothly. We've been lucky so far and have our fingers crossed for the outcome of this next, crazy, move.

Wish us luck and keep your eyes peeled for updates. See you soon from the land of lobster, tough winters and glorious summers! (Hey, we've been pretty much milking summer for the last 3 years, following the sun...that's the beauty of retirement.)
