A Little Help from my Friends...that's what I need

I know it's been a while since my last post.  We've been awaiting blooming season, which much anticipation, but I digress!  I need your help.  I'm getting ready to send my book to print (it's gone through editing) and I have to complete the back cover synopsis.  This is what I have and I need to know if you feel it's interesting enough.  This is the thing that makes people buy books, apparently.  (Well, really I already knew that, because that's what makes ME buy books!)  Would you be enticed to buy the book?  If you could, can you please ask everyone for their feedback?  Here it is:

Lily West, having cared for her ailing parents most of her adult life, is now totally alone.  Or so she thinks, until she comes across an envelope hidden in a her mother’s closet.  What she discovers in the 20 year old letter sends her far from home and in search of family she didn’t know existed.  Arriving in a small, failing mining town, with little money and no plan, she discovers that not all families love unconditionally.  She will have to decide whether to live as others want her to, or follow her heart and be true to the values she was raised with.  Will her choice alienate her from the only family she has?  And if she’s brave enough to do what’s right--disregarding the social conventions of the time--is she condemned to be alone for the rest of her life?

Please let me know what you think!

PS, once you vote, let me know so I can enter you in the draw!

  1. This isn't right either, but there may be a way to shorten the first bit and create a bit more mystery at the same time...?

"After caring for her ailing parents most of her adult life, Lily West is now totally alone, or so she thought. A 20 year old letter discovered in her mother’s closet sends her (on an adventure?) far from home and in search of family she didn’t know existed."

    1. Excellent point...it does need tightening up. There's so much more to the book, that its hard to narrow it down to a paragraph, I'll keep working on it. Thanks so much!!!

  2. I would leave it at the last line "Will her choice alienate her from the only family she has?"

Everything after that my brain tuned out I think (and I have nothing to actually base this on) that you don't really need the last line, if you ended where I think it should be enough of a hook to get readers to buy it. I would at least love to read it.
